Cannot telnet to some clients |
|
|
Hi
For some reason there are two client PC's (XP SP2) that I cannot telnet onto
on port 8192. This is interferring with the automated Virus updates. All
other clients respond OK.
What couold be interferring with telnet on these two machines?
One is may machine (which has lots of crap on it), and the other is a
machine that I have just rebuilt the software on - almost as vanilla as they
come.
Any ideas please

Hello,
I assume network card port filtering or the built in XP firewall are not
blocking this port ?

Hi Michael
No, I have manually opened the TCP ports 8192 to 8194. It is all very 'rum'
if you ask me.

Have you tested that Telneting to other ports on the machine works ?
Can you run a "netstat -an" on the machine and confirm the ports come
up as open ?

Hi Michael
Sophos (my AV vendor) finally came up with the goods (2 weeks.). It was a
corrupted envelope (message) in a directory preventing proper updating. Empty
the directory and all is now OK
Thanks for your input though
Cheers
