Hi,

I wish to make an inplace windows NT domain migration to Windows 2003
as a child domain of a forest that I raise before in windows 2003
native. I need this because I also need a forest trust between this
migration target forest and a second Windows 2003 forest that is
already in Windows 2003 native.

I tested the inplace NT PDC migration in this conditions and it works.
The Windows 2003 forest root child domain obtained after NT inplace
migration is in Windows 2003 native (it inherits the forest functional
level that is Windows 2003 native).
My issue is if that way to migrate could affect in any way the
migration process (in production env could have more than 10 BDC on the
NT source domain, replicating via WAN). Also could it affect
applications installed on NT member servers?

Thanks,
omg

Hi Omg,

I'm sorry but I'm unsure what do you mean of "if that way to migrate could
affect in any way the migration process". What the "affect" means?

My understanding is that you have performed an in-place upgrade on a
Windows NT PDC. And you want to know if it will do harm to the applications
on Windows NT member servers.

Please don't worry that Windows NT member server are independent of DCs.
Generally, it won't affect these applications on member servers unless the
applications need the feature in NT domain. Regarding this, you need to
make sure before you perform the in-place upgrade.

Please correct me if I have misunderstood your concerns.

Best regards,

Vincent Xu

Thak you for your response.

Yes I'll make an In place upgrade but during the Active Directory
Installation wizard I will join the domain as child domain to an
Windows 2003 AD forest in Windows 2003 native mode. So the upgraded
domain will be in Windows 2003 native and not in mitx, as it should be
dafult after an in-place upgrade.

I know that all installed software supposing null sessions will not
work. I heard that null sessions not only for RAS but in also could be
for SQL databases, do you know something about?...

Thank you,

Hi,

I'm not sure about "software supposing null sessions" and I didn't hear
anything like this.

Maybe you can post this issue at:

Microsoft.public.windowsnt.apps

for assistance. I think it would be more approprate.
