PLACEHOLDERS NOT INSTALLED ON CLIENT MACHINES |
|
|
Hello,
We have a CMS2002 site under production ata client's (bank) for their
internal departments. The problem is that the no one can "author" content
from their local machine because it seems the PlacHolders where not
downloaded or installed when they accessed the site first time.
I tried ,
1) I checked the ActiveX control settings on the browser so that it may be
downloaded and it looks fine.
2) I checked for objects that may have been downloaded so that I can
delete it and re-force the download. But there is no CMS objects in that
folder.
3) I tried registering the DLLs in the c:\Program Files\Microsoft Content
Management
Server\Server\IIS_CMS\WebAuthor\Client\PlaceholderControlSupport\nrdhtml.cab.
None of the above approaches worked.
Is there any way I can reforce the download? or Is there anywhere I can
download the actual ActiveX controls and Reinstall it on the Client machines?
Wat sort of settings should I look for whether the user has
a) sufficient permissions to download the ActiveX controls or
b) his browser settings do not allow the download of the ActiveX controls.
Thanx. |

Hi Sam,
registering the active x controls should always work. If not, then the
machines are seriosly locked down to a level where even preinstalled active
x controls do not work.
Please test with a fresh installed - not locked down machine.
Cheers,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,
The problem is the client is a bank. What I am trying to say is that the
bank may have a set of "their standard" security policies configured for each
machine. Even if I try it on a new machine the same security policies will be
applied on it which will have the same effect, Unless I tell t hem to overide
it.
Can you tell me what sort of "settings" I may have to check for so that the
Placeholders are installed on the client PC. Any Link pointing me in this
direction would be very helpful and appreciated.
Thanx,
Sam

Hello Sam,
We would suggest to use RadEditor from telerik at http://mcmscontrols.com.
It doesn't require an ACTIVEX. Also it would work on Firefox too.

Hi Satish,
actually that is not correct. The Telerik one also uses an Active X control
but one that is coming with IE. So the security settings might allow this
one.

Stefan

Hi Sam,
please post this question to an Internet Explorer related newsgroup.
Security Settings in IE are not MCMS related.
Actually Active X controls need to run - at least the preinstalled ones.
Cheers,
Stefan

Hi Sam
We've just had the same problem here.
The issue was resolved by logging in as Adminstrator and installing the
controls that way (simply by editing a page). If the account has too few
permissions the "would you like to install an ActiveX control" dialog does
not get displayed.
Hope this is of some use.
