Strange DHCP/DNS problem |
|
|
We have a subnet 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.3.255, in the DHCP leases view
all of the computers in 192.168.3.X are showing as "dynamic dns update
failed or pending"(the icon shows a screen with a pen through it).
If you try an nslookup on a host in that range the dns server returns
nothing, but with a host in the other part of the subnet DNS returns
the FQDN. |

Can I assume that all clients and servers are using 255.255.252.0 as the
subnet mask?

That is correct, since the gateway router is 192.168.1.1 and everyone
can get out. My workstation is 192.168.3.31 and can see everything on
the network just fine. But I am not in DNS/AD. |

Can you post the ipconfig /all from your machine?
What OS is the DHCP and DNS server?
Post ipconfig /all from the DHCP server.

I was wanting to see the unedited ipconfig /all from the client so I could
see the DNS suffixes.

This is running both DHCP and DNS?
On Win2k3 DHCP you need to assign a dedicated user account in DHCP for the
server to use to authenticate with. The link in the article listed below
takes you to the relevant paragragh in the article regarding this.
How to configure DNS dynamic updates in Windows Server 2003:
