Error "This form is not available for this list..." |
|
|
Hi,
I created a WSS site that has a Document Library and a few custom lists. The
Document Library has some custom fields added which are actually "lookup"
fields to those custom lists within the site.
I then created a view in the Document Library which groups by this custom
field. The grouping works fine, but the group headers (which are actually
links to the custom list item) are not working. When someone would click on a
header before they would be taken to the custom list item. But now they are
taken to an error page:
=============
Error
This form is not available for this list, discussion board, survey, or
document library.
=============
This used to work, and I don't see that anything changed on the site or with
any of these list items since late August. I also opened the WSS site in
FrontPage to check modified date on all the site pages, didn't see any
recently modified.
I thought perhaps the custom lists were part of the issue. So I created new
lists and then modified the Document Library views to use the new field,
problem continued though.
I've also found that this is happening across any WSS site with a view that
uses "Grouped By" with a lookup value selected.
Any ideas? Has anyone come across this?
Thanks in advance, --Sarah

I too have had exactly this problem. I found it is caused by deleting
an entry in the parent list. This then causes the fields in your
document library to no longer have a 'look up' entry. (In my case I was
using a list rather than a document library but I assume the cause is
the same) and my entries ended up being grouped under a 'blank' entry).
I deleted the 'blank' entries but then found that this didn't repair
the damage. All my hyperlinks in the grouped view pointed to this error
message.
However, I did find a sort of workaround that might solve your problem
too. I found that if I included the problem field (the one you are
grouping by) also as a column in the view itself then suddenly the
problem went away. Obviously this means that when you expand the
grouping you see the information twice, but at least the hyperlinks
started to work again. If you remove the column the problem reoccurs so
there seems to be some underlying damage caused by the deletion of the
entry in the parent list.
Hope this helps..

THANKS, Chairman!!!
Your workaround worked excellently, working hyperlinks is such a good thing,
doesn't really matter that the info shows twice (grouped and also in the
view).
Thanks again for the help,
