Hi,
The best way to connect the task list with foreign data is via a Web Part
connection between the list and a Data View Web Part.
The Data View Web Part is configured with FrontPage 2003 to connect to the
SQL table via an OLEDB connection defined in the Data Sources section which
can be accessed in FrontPage from the Data menu.

So long as there is a column in both the SQL table and your task list then
you can use the selected task item to be used as a filter parameter for the
Data View Web Part so that only relevant records are returned from the SQL
table.

Ian

Hi,
There is no Web Part coding required to use the DVWP. Some understanding of
XML/XSL helps.

There is no OOTB option to use another source for a SharePoint list column
other than another SharePoint list.
What I was getting at is that if you manually enter the customer ID in the
Task list then you can create a web part page that when you select a task,
it will show the customer details in a DVWP coming from another database,
or, on selecting a customer from the DVWP, any tasks assigned to that
customer in the SharePoint list will be displayed.

Hi,
Here are some simple instruction on how to connect 2 web parts so that
clicking on an item in one filters the results in the other.
http://www.wssdemo.com/Pages/connections.aspx?menu=Articles
I would try this with 2 sharepoint lists to start with, then replace one of
the web parts with a Data View web part that is connected to your SQL table.

Hi,
It is a setting in your IE that is causing this problem. Just select cancel
and you should get the page.
(Your browser is sending your current credentials to my site which doesn't
understand them so it prompts for a correct logon even though the site is
anonymous).
