-- Is it possible to modify the search properties in advanced search? There
are
allot of items in there i dont need and its confusing for the user. I would
like to take out properties that are not needed. Is there a way to do this?

Hi Lee,

For customize the Sharepoint search page, we could develop one aspx page or
a web part and then feel free to display the search result in your own way.
MSDN web site has one excellent article regarding this for you.
How to Customize Your Search Using SharePoint Portal Server 2003
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/odc_SP2003_ta/html/Office_SharePoint
PortalServerSearchBox.asp

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further question on this
matter.

Thank you Wei for your reponse. The link you sent is not working. Can you
reconfirm the address. Also to give you an example if you go to the advanced
search page, then the "search by properties" drop down. There are allot of
properties we would like to remove completely. If I go to Manage Properties
of Crawled Content I cannot find these properties to remove.

Thanks

Hi Lee,

My link is correct. Perhaps the newsgroup NNTP server broke the long url. I
have created one short format by using the service from tinyurl.com:
http://tinyurl.com/8axbc
This link will redirect you to the long link:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/odc_SP2003_
ta/html/Office_SharePointPortalServerSearchBox.asp

I know your reuqirment is to recreate one customized search. The article
from the link above will introduce all the information you want.

In addition, if the link above doesn't work, please follow my steps below
to find the article:
1. open one IE broswer and type "http://msdn.microsfot.com/library"
2. click the node "Web Development" at the left tree navigation area
3. click the node "Server Technologies"
4. click the node "SharePoint Products and Technologies "
5. click the node "SharePoint Products and Technologies (2003)"
6. expaned the tree "Technical Articles", and fine the article "How to
Customize Your Search Using SharePoint Portal Server 2003"

Hello Wei

The link now works. Thank you. This describes modifying the search aspx
page. Again if you can tell me how to remove some of the properties of the
advanced search from showing up in the drop down. I believe its somewhere in
the Manage Properties of Crawled Content.

Thanks

Hi Lee,

The properties are controlled at site setting->Manage properties from
crawled documents. This page lists all the properties the indexing will
have a look. By modifying here, we could change the properties used in the
advaned search page. Furthermore, this SPS admin guide article introduce
more information regarding this topic for you:
Editing Properties of Crawled Content

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further question on this
matter.
