DNS Replication Scope |
|
|
I have a Windows 2003 Server (Main Office) and a Windows 2000 Server (Remote
Office) they have a permanent VPN established between the two. The Windows
2000 is used currently for file storage. We decided to promote the PC to a
domain controller and had no problems whatsoever. When we added DNS nothing
replicated over until we switch the replication scope to "To all domain
controllers in the domain" We were able to do so with our reverse lookup,
but no our forward.
We have a signle domain (example.local) Reverse lookup zone and the _msdc we
were able to switch over so that it could replicate to the Windows 2000
server. However the example.local domain comes up with an error stating:
"The replication scope could not be set. For more information, see "DNS zone
replication in Active Directory" in Help and Support. The error was:
The name limit for the local computer network adapter card was exceeded."
Any input on this issue would be greatly appreciated. I ran into a Q
article, but it didn't seem to help me much. Not many people have had this
issue, so I could gather little information.
-- I also tried switching the scope prior to promoting the Win2k box to a
DC. Function level of the domain is win2k native. |

Does the Win2k DNS have this zone in its forward lookup zones?
You can try changing the zone to a standard primary first, then open ADU&C
in Advanced view, expand the System container and open the MicrosoftDNS
container, delete any objects with this zone name. Connect to both DCs in
ADU&C and make sure the zone object doesn't exist.
Then. change the zone back to AD integrated, replicating only to DCs in the
domain.

Re: DNS Replication Scope |

YOU ARE THE MAN!!!
I checked the AD folder and there were about 40 folders with "in progress"
for the domain. I set it to standard primary zone. (Then it said zone did
not exist) so I recreated the zone and reloaded the dns file that was
created when I set it to standard primary. I changed to AD integrated and it
replicated over perfectly fine.
Thank you so much!
