Pushing MOM agent to clients |
|
|
I am trying to push the MOM agent to several Windows Server 2003 SP1
machines, and a Windows XP SP2 machine. In doing so I am getting an
error:
Failed
DOMAIN\SERVER1
The MOM Server failed to install agent on remote computer
SERVER1.DOMAIN.EDU.
Error Code: -2147023174
Error Description: The RPC server is unavailable.
Microsoft Installer Error Description: No Description Available
I found this article, but the firewall on these machines is disabled
completely so it does not relate to my problem:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;885726
Has anyone run into this before? What might I be doing wrong?! We
have tried rebooting the machines and that didn't help, I tried
installing using my username and password (I am a Domain Admin.) Any
help would be greatly appreciated! |

Is this MOM 2005 RTM or SP1? There was an issue with pushing agents to
Windows 2003 Server SP1 servers prior to MOM 2005 SP1. There is a
hotfix for the issue and it is fixed in SP1.

I just sent this reply to David:
Sorry, I should have said...yes this is MOM 2005 SP1, running in
Windows Server 2003 SP1, using SQL 2000 SP3.
Thank you both for the help. I hope that this provides some useful
information. |

Are these machines in separate domains without trust relationships
between them? If so, you would have to manually install the agent. If
they are in the same domain, does a manual installation of the agent
succeed?

Hey David,
Thanks for the reponse...they are in the same domain. I haven't tried
a manual install yet. I can try that on one of them to see if it
succeeds...I suspect that it will.
As an FYI, I upgraded to SQL 2000 SP4 last night on the MOM server. I
didn't expect it to fix the problem, but I was out of ideas and it
needed to be done anyway. I did not fix anything. |
