Find redundant computer accounts |
|
|
Hi,
we have an AD domain with 9 sites that has 9000 computer accounts in total,
we know the actual amount of computers in use is around 4500. Can AD help me
identify the live accounts?
Also would be very useful if we can identify the subnet they logon to, this
would allow us to identify their site's & create OU's based on this
Any advice appreciated |

Glen-
For finding old computer accounts, I'd highly recommend you use oldcmp from
www.joeware.net. I use it all the time, and I have a little less than ten
times the number of computer objects you have.
As far as identifying subnets, you can look in DNS at the computers
registration and do some matching based on that...

I don't understand what you mean by what subnet they log into? If you mean you
need to know what subnet those machines are on you would have to query AD for
the dnshostname and then resolve that name to an ip address and sort on that. If
you want to convert subnet info to AD sites, there is another tool on my website
that will do that called ATSN - http://www.joeware.net/win/free/tools/atsn.htm

Wish there was a tool as good as that for the computer location part...
