Hi All,

I have Live Communications Server 2005 (SP1) running on my SBS 2003
server. It runs great, however, I cannot activate the archiving
function. Whenever I run the "Activate Archiving Service and Backend",
it fails to activate the archive function and gives me an error
message. Here's the values I enter during the Wizard:

Enter SQL Server instance used by Archiving Server:
"servername"

Enter database name:
"LcsLog"

Install database to:
"D:\LiveC\LC Archiving Data\"

Install transaction log to:
"D:\LiveC\LC Archiving Log\"

After I enter these values and run the wizard it fails and gives me the
following error message:

"Activate Archiving Service Wizard has failed."

When I view the log, it says the following:

"Failure [0xC3EC783D] Failed to start SQL service."

I desperately need to get this up and running as my employees are
abusing the instant messaging system. Does anyone know how to configure
this and set it up properly? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I received the same error - until I pointed the SQL server Instance to an
actual SQL server, and not the LCS MSDE server. Everything went smoothly
after that.

Does this mean I have to install SQL on the server? FYI, I am running
Microsoft Small Business Server Premium, but dont remember installing
SQL. I use sharepoint and exchange, so shouldn't that mean I should
already have SQL installed?

If not, then I guess I will have to install SQL. But won't that be a
huge undertaking if I do?

Kindly let me know any recommendations you can give,

Cassandra - SBS 2003 Premium should have SQL installed. Can you note what
version of LCS 2005 you are running, LCS 2005 EE or LCS 2005 SE (Service
Pack 1 has already been noted).

Bob

Hi Bob,

Thank you for the response! I am running Live Communications Server
2005 Standard Edition with Service Pack 1. Sorry for the dumb blonde
question, but, since I already have SBS 2003 Premium installed, where
do I find a SQL Server Instance to point to? What the heck is a SQL
Server Instance anyways? Where do I find a name?

Kindly let me know!

When it prompts you for an instance, instead of giving it a server name and
a named instance, give it the server name and see if it creates it. Also,
you may want to run a tool like Belarc (www.belarc.com) and see what it
detects as being installed. Hopefully you do not have both MSDE and SQL
installed and running on the same server.
