I started testing FRS a few months ago and I'm now ready to go ahead and
implement it. I'm sure that what I want to do is very common but here it is
anyway, I want to replicate the content of a few shares between our main file
server and an existing server. I would like to make the replication work one
way only and referral enabled only on the main server (I'd switch referral on
the other server in case of a problem with our main server). I've tested all
this in a lab environment on a very small scale (shared contained a few Gb of
data) and it worked beautifully. My question is, will this work on a much
larger scale, with about 250 Gb worth of data? I know that FRS works well
with fairly static content, in our case our daily incremental backups for the
main file server will backup about 4 Gb of data daily which suggest that this
amount of data would have to be replicated by FRS daily between the 2
servers. Is FRS the right solution for me? Should I look for a stand alone
solution that will do this more efficiently (someone mentioned Availl Backup
on this newgroup)? TIA

This is far above what we recommend for FRS, as stated in this KB:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;840675. Even if you
could gradually source the replica set, you could run into problems during
recovery.

If you can run Windows Server 2003 R2 on all your servers, you can use DFS
Replication
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5e547c69-d224-4423-8eac-18d5883e7bc2&displaylang=en)
This paper is a bit out-of-date in terms of recommended limits (this is a
beta 2 doc), but at RTM we should be higher.

Thanks a lot... I will look for a third party solution then.
