Best Authentication method for Mac OSX clients |
|
|
Is there a prefered authentication method for mac clients connecting to a CMS
site.
Our mac clients can never fully authenticate with any of the 4 methods that
IIS allows. In short the mac clients will continuously be prompted and asked
to authenticate after having entered the domain credentials. Is this normal ?
thanks

Hi Chris,
I'm not sure about the Mac Issue as I have never worked with such a machine
but forms authentication should work in all cases if cookies are enabled.
Be aware that this can only be used for subscribers. Authoring from Mac is
not supported.
Cheers,
Stefan

As the authentication is set in the web.config file, it applies to the site
and subordinate folders. I know you can make a new visual studio project in
subchannels, but I don't know if you can reset the authentication type for
those folders.

Same here with the RadEditor and our mac cleints as well as different

frustrating....which
lead to our solution... and that was to send them to a CITRIX session...
this
is kind of jaring for the not-so-savy and long time mac users who have to
leave their Aqua GUI....which is most of our senior design staff...oh, the
horror of it all !
I have to say it's somewhat embaressing ( or at least I feel that way
explaining it to our mac users) that there's very little functionality
that
can be levereaged for mac clients. The funny thing was that the plain old
Woodgrove ASP demo site was working wondefully with mac clients.
On the same hand I couldn't be more happier with how well MSCMS
integrates
with our XP users.
For the record your saying you can only have one style of authentication
per
site ?
I'd like to have windows and a forms option on the same site.
Of course, I'd like a billion dollars too but I undestand if it's not
going
to happen.
thanks

I have our site set with Windows authentication, and our mac clients can
navigate through the site without have to re-login. However, the default
placeholder control is an ActiveX control that will not work with any
browser for the mac. I replaced the editor with the radEditor from
telerik,
and our Mac users can use Firefox (not Safari) to edit pages, but they
cannot use any of the other options (new page, page/channel properties,
copy, move, etc)
We are going to be deploying terminal services for our mac users to edit
pages, as there is no native support that gives the same functionality as
IE
for Windows.

Sure thing on the Mac's not bein able to author.
Can you have both "Forms" and "Windows" authentication for the same
site ?
