Host A records |
|
|
I have 2 win3k DNS servers. We want only 1 DNS server on our network. 2
questions:
1. Can I just remove DNS from old server? Or do I need to do something in
DNS settings first?
2. I have old server referenced in the Foreward Lookup
Zones...domain..._msdcs\gc folder. Shouldn't this be referencing the new
server only?
Thanks.

For starters; I'm NOT a DNS-guru like the others in this list.
As far as I know it would be completely safe to remove your old DNS-server.
Altough, in Sweden we MUST have two servers to register .se-domains. There
might be other tld's that needs two servers.
I don't recommend you to remove the old server at all if you're not
replacing it. The idea with two servers is to always have a DNS even if one
fails or is down.
Can't really help you on the second question.
Kind Regards,

Why do you only want one DNS server?
Two are recommended, especially for DCs to prevent start up errors.

It should be referencing which ever DC is a Global Catalog server. Did you
make the new server a GC?

I am planning to replace the old server and make it a DNS server also. Can |
I just use the same IP address and computer name?
