Hi,
Unfortuantely, no I cannot telnet from either internally or externally
on port 25. I can connect through telnet externally on port 110
however.

Going back to port forwarding port 25 from router to external NIC, how
important is that? Is it critical to have the port forwarded?

Thanks for your help so far Marina.

Hi,

Well, if you want to retrieve email with SMTP, you will definitely need to
forward port 25 to your external nic. You also need to rerun ICW and enable
SMTP.

Marina, he has a public IP on his external interface, why does he need to
forward anything?

I think the key here is 'BT'. FWV, this is BT home service right? If so I
believe they block port 25 traffic into your IP. There are ways of forcing
SMTP to alternate ports (there may be a good google search term there).

However, FWV also suggests they can't telnet to 25 internally, that needs
fixing.

I think you need to open Exchange System Manager to see if default
smtp server is listening on all unassigned. Of course there may be
other problems.
