File Share and Print Server Naming |
|
|
We're currently set up with a single box that is running Mandrake 10 that
serves as our file server and print server, among other duties. We've just
now purchased a couple of new boxes that we've clustered using W2K3 and we
have our database server set up on the cluster. That seems to be working
fine. We'd now like to move our file server and print server services to the
W2K3 cluster. I have a question about naming. Currently, all of our file
shares are mapped as \\servername\sharename and print servers are mapped as
\\servername\print server name on the workstations in our company. Is there
any way that I could create a resource that would function as both a file
server resource and a print server resource and name it in such a way that I
don't have to change the mapping on our workstations? I'd like the change
from Linux to W2k3 to be transparent and I want to save myself some work.
Thanks in advance for any help that can be offered. If there are any other
suggestions as to how to approach this problem, I'd certainly be open to
hearing them.

hi ernie!
this is no problem. you create a cluster group with the following resources:
ip-adress, name and physical disks. the name resource should get the name
\\servername you have used with your old server. in that virtual group you
create a print spooler resource and the needed shares.
