Hi!

I ran the File Sever Migration Wizard to copy shares from my W2K Server to
my new 2003 Server. After the Copy phase was done, I realized there was a
share that shouldn't have been included. I backed up to the Setup Phase,
unchecked the share, and clicked Continue. Now the Wizard is trying to copy
the entire set again, and I'm caught in a Catch-22: the Wizard is trying to
copy the entire set of shares to the target server AGAIN. I can't remove the
data from my target server because it doesn't show up in Windows Explorer,
and I can't get out of this loop in the Wizard. Any help or suggestions
(short of completely rebuilding my target server...) will be greatly
appreciated!

Hello,

Good to hear from you.

According to your post, I am not clear about some of the details. Please
give me more information about the following questions.

Can I assume you have done the following steps?

1. You use FSMT to migrate 5 folders (let us say) from source server to
target server.
2. The migration process has successfully completed and the 5 folders show
up on the target.
3. You have rolled back the migration process so 5 folders have been
deleted from the target.
4. Migrate the 4 folders again (uncheck the folder you don't want to
migrate, let us call it "TEST") from source to target.
5. The migration process has successfully completed.

Do you mean TEST does not show up on the target or all folders do not show
up?

If only TEST does not show up, it is normal as TEST is probably not copied
to the target server. Please use the command "dir /a" to check the target
server. If the share doesn't show up, it is really not on the target server.

If you have an additional computer, I suggest that you migrate the folders
you are desirable to this server to check if the same result occurs.

If you have any further questions don't hesitate to get in touch!

Best regards,

Frances He

Hi Frances,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Upon further investigation, the
nature of my problem is different from what I originally posted. I'll
describe it by responding to your message in line.

Should I just delete all of the shares on the target and start over from
scratch?

Regards,
Bob G.

No, the process didn't complete. I backed the FSMW up from the Copy phase,

unchecked the share that I didn't want, and tried the validation step in the
Setup phase again. At that point the Wizard failed and won't let me move
forward because there is no longer enough room on the target server for all
of the shares.

Hi Frances,

Thank you for checking this out so thoroughly. I did find the new share on
the target server.

Bob

Hello Bob,

According to your original message, I reproduce the steps below to have a
check:

1. I use FSMT to migrate 3 folders from source server to target server.

2. In the new project wizard, I choose to migrate the folders to c:\share
in the target server.

This time c:\share don't show up in the target server

3. In the setup phase, I select the 3 folders and click "continue" to
validate the folders.

4. In the copy phase, I click "continue".
This time c:\share appear in the target server.

5. At this time, I roll back to the setup phase and uncheck one of the
folders.
If I roll back to the copy phase, I cannot uncheck the folders.

6. Then I click "continue" to recopy the folders.
At this time, you will find the folders have been copied to the target
server twice. This explains why you encounter the error to indicate there
is no enough room to pursue the process.

7. I successfully complete the task.

I assume you performed the same steps until step 7, since the disk does not
have enough room.

If the target folder is not on a system partition, I suggest that you
format the partition and remigrate the folders. If it is on the system
partition, please refresh windows to check whether the target folder
appears. According to my test, it should show up. Then you can delete the
whole folder.

Hope this helps. If there is any update, please get in touch!

Best regards,

Frances He

Hello Bob,

Can I assume that you have deleted the share on the target server? Is there
other issue with FSMT?

If you have other questions, don't hesitate to get in touch!
