NLB dead machines |
|
|
Hi
I use NLB to load balance my 2 web servers, but it doesnt cope with services
that are down, eg IIS. It only fails the node automatically if the whole
server goes off line. Is there anything I can do to help me here?
Also, I have noticed that if I connect to the NLB IP from a member of the
NLB group it always goes to that same member even if it's stopped in NLB.

Sorry, but that is just one of the limitations of NLB.

As far as the service awareness, you'll need to mvoe to a hardware solution
like a Cisco CSM/CSS that can do something like an http ping for aliveness
checks.

Thanks
Is it possible to initiate a stop or start command to NLB via a command
prompt?

Yes, you could. Drainstop is the polite way to remove a server, it waits
until all active connections are dropped before removing the server. If you
have a failed box, you'd rather just stop it immediately.
