Windows 2000 server to Windows 2003 |
|
|
Hi
We currently have a Windows 2000 domain controller which also acts as a file
and print server. There is a hardware fault and we are replacing the server.
The new server will run 2003. the domain is native mode 2000 ad
We need to migrate the data and print queues across and need to retain
security.
What is the best way to go about this and is there any documentation or
guides/step by steps we can refer to
The new server will also be a adc
thanks |

Yes we have other DCs in the domain.
How about retaining file and share security from the old server to the new
server?
I need answers on how to move the print queues etc, i think for this i can
use print migrator to backup the config and restore it to the new server
and also regarding data and security.
thanks

If its not, how do you plan to restore your AD?
If its so, you should manualy clean your schema to remove all entries about
your offline DC. If you don't have "automatic restore CD", you can not
restore domain to normal state, you have an offline DC. After cleaning up
you install WinServer2k3, include them to domain. Some action needed to
prepare domain and forest to migrate to "2003-mode" and before make new
server as DC. Note, AD will still in 2000 native mode. This can be changed
in "AD User and Computers" snap-in. Just right click on domain "Raise domain
functional level...".

when DC role will be apllied to your new server, all Catalog data will be |
copied: users ID's, groups membership, etc.

all printers will be available as all domain functionality |
