Alert Me Notifications and PDFs |
|
|
I added the document type of PDF to the icon list in the XML file. However,
when I add a PDF to a document area, I am not notified. I'm only notified if
I add a MS Office document to the list. Is there a way that I can fix this?

Hello Jason N. Gaylord jasongaylord.com,
A couple of things. Alerts are generated at the end of the crawling process.
By default, PDF is not one of the filetypes that is crawled. I would suggest
that you download and install the PDF IFilter (adobe makes this) and add
it into your site. This IFilter will parse the PDF files so that you can
search on their contents. As part of the installation process, you will also
include PDF as one of the filetypes to be crawled.
Give that a shot and see if it makes any difference.
