HI..

We are in plainning stage of migrating NT4 file server to windows 2003.
I came across with this issue.
We are using an old NT4 box that we cannot perform in-place upgrade we need
to migrate to new windows 2003 box.
Restoring NTFS is done by backup software but share permission will not be
restored by this backup software.

I had a look at "Srvcheck.exe" tool to dump out share permission on NT4 and
use "RMTSHARE.exe" to import back into Windows 2003.
But this "RMTSHARE.exe" is for NT4 not 2K3 thus will it work on 2K3?

Or is there a better and simpler way to do this?

Thanks.

Hello,

You can use FSMT to migrate the shares with permissions from NT 4.0 to
Server 2003.

For more information, please refer to the following articles.

Microsoft File Server Migration Toolkit

Overview of the Microsoft File Server Migration Toolkit

view.mspx

Hope it helps.

we're in the same boat. I have been looking at member server migrator from
winzero. According to their web site http://www.winzero.ca/MSVR-Migrator.htm
it
sounds like it does everything I want. I was just wondering if anyone had
tryed it and what their experience was with it.

Hello,

It is better to directly consult the support from this software
manufacturer and ask for the relevant information.
