Site Name Change |
|
|
We changed the name of our site in IIS. To do this we simply changed the
name, updated host header, updated the host file, updated the application
name, checked Site Manager and Server Configuration Application to make sure
they were all updated with the new info.
Now we are just getting a 403 error when we go to the site. I can go to the
site to an aspx file and it works fine, so the site in IIS seems to be
working. It's almost like the site doesn't know to load the CMS pages. Does
anyone have any ideas why this might be?
Thanks in advance, I know this is a tough one without actually seeing the
setup, but I'm hoping someone may have encountered something similar.
One more note, if I change all the names back to the original name, ti works
fine.
Thanks again. |

Re: Site Name Change |

We do have "Map Channel Names to Host Headers" to yes in the SCA, however we
have a hotfix applied that allows our top level channel name to be different
than our Site name in IIS.
It's kind of a funky setup, the consultant that set it up for us bailed a
couple weeks ago and I'm trying to figure out where we are at.
Basically, I'm trying to get our QA enviornment and Authoring enviornment
setup. For some reason, we have 2 servers setup with sites called
http://authoring.qa. BAsically, I want to take the actual authoring server
and rename the site to be http://authoring.
Our actual top level channel on our authoring, qa, and production server is
the same, which is www.oursite.com. This way when we push from authoring to
production, we don't have any conflicts.
Anyway, it seems that since I renamed the site, it doesn't know it has CMS
at all.
Thanks again.

Hi TJ,
you will need to ensure that the top channel name listed in Site Manager is
identical with the host header name you choosed.
Cheers,
Stefan

Re: Site Name Change |

The hotfix that we applied is described in Article 824597
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;824597).
Unfortunately, I don't know much about it because our form consultant applied
it and didnt' document or explain.
I do know that on both our authoring server and our live server, our top
level channel name is www.oursite.com and our host header on the authoring
server is authoring.qa.
Our consultant did say he applied a hotfix to get this to work, and this is
the only hot fix I see on the server.
The strange thing is our QA site works if I change the site name, host
header value, and host file value back to what we originally called it. But
if I try and change the name it seems to lose its relationship with CMS.
Thanks again for your help or ideas!

Re: Site Name Change |

Hi TJ,
again: you need to ensure that your top level channel has the identical name
to the host header name the incoming request sends.
The hotfix is only to ensure that links are not rendered with a host name -
it does not influence the behaviour of the "map channel name to host header
name" feature.
Cheers,
Stefan
