Hi

Question regarding W2K3 file cluster and Notes 6.5 clients behavior.

Situation:
Notes user-files are located on the file cluster - notes.ini,
notes.id... and so one because of WTS env.

Problem:
Users have to close and open the Notes client when the cluster are
switched over to another node. Notes client not responding.

Info:
The user have some Notes files open for read/write access, and the
guess is that the Notes client couldn't handle the file
open-close-open situation, when changing node.
Like the case i earlier days with old Office versions.

(Haven't tried Notes 7.0 client yet)

Any solution for this behavior ? Tips ?

Anybody else with this solution ?

Regards John

It seems Lotus Notes has not changed the way the behave for years.
I experienced such problems in 2000 installing clusters hosting Lotus Notes
4.6 client initialization and critical files (desktop.dsk, names.nsf and
other). Clients use to start Notes Client using the -N switch to use the
cluster share user files.

Every time there was a failover (maintanance reasons or whatever) Notes
clients hung. Clients had to be restarted.

I woult test with version 7 but I am not optimistic. I would also follow
Rod's advice trying to get IBM's opinion

I have been reading these forums for years now and I can count on a shop
teachers one hand the number of Lotus Notes clustering questions. Sorry, but
you may get better support by calling Lotus support.

Cheers,

IMHO the solution to this problem is to migrate to Exchange. :)

That would also work, though probably not what 123 wants to hear!

So, basically, it sounds like it is an open file issue. When the cluster
group is moved, the connections are not maintained to open files, and this
is likely what is causing the problem with the client.

Stopping and restarting the client re-establishes the connection.

I very much doubt that Notes 7 will fix this issue.
