Hi Frank,

I'd suggest you could use Frontpage 2003 to backup your WSS subsite and
then restore them to a new top site. Please noticie, Frontpage 2003 could
only restore the backup package into one empty top site. If the top site
has been used by other WSS site, you will need to remove it before the
restore.

Based on my experience, this article will introduce the complete
information regarding this to you, not only Frontpage 2003 but also other
utillites:
Backing Up and Restoring Web Sites Created with Windows SharePoint Services

swss.mspx

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further question on this
matter.

Wei-Dong.

Isn't the FP backup/restore just smigrate with a nice front-end ?

If so it won't restore his customizations as Frank points out in his second
message.

Hi Mike,

By using Frontpage 2003, the customization content of the subsite could be
stored, which will not be lost.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further question on this
matter.

Will the new security groups and permissions on various content libraries be
saved as well?

Thanks,
Frank

Hi Frank,

The security information is not persisted. We will need to configure it
then.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further question on this

Assuming preservation of site customization is not a concern, would STSADM
also provide the functionality to restore a subsite to a new top-level site?
