I just installed windows 2000 server. Everything works great except I
cannot ping anyone.

I double checked all my DNS and WINS setting and they both have the same
setting but still cannot ping.

I have VPN setup on my network with our other remote servers. I can ping 2
servers but cannot ping 3 other servers. I can ping everyone from my
client's computer.

Is there anyway that I can run some kind of diagnostics and find out the
problem.

Thanks

Ping is not meant to test DNS or WINS resolution, so you need to clarify the
problem. can ping resolve the name or does the ping timeout?

I suggest you use nslookup and/or nblookup to test this.
Using NSlookup.exe:

NBLookup.exe command-line tool:

I see you are using VPN with remote servers....

I'm not sure about Windows 2000 Server, but does it have RRAS (Routing and
Remote Access Service) installed? I could not ping my Domain Controller/DNS
server b/c RRAS had a basic firewall that was not allowing me to ping the
server. I could not join another server to the domain nor ping the server
b/c I was receiving timeout errors. Once I stopped the service, I was able
to ping the server and join the domain successfully.

Maybe this could have something to do with yours, if not, you just wasted
about 20 seconds of reading.
