Jesús -
Are you working with LCS 2005 Standard or Enterprise?
Have you installed Service Pack 1?
Are the clients connecting via the Server IP address, the Server name, or the Pool name?
I am assuming that you are using WM5.1 or MOC...is this correct?

I have an idea why this is happening, which is the DNS record for the Pool, but I need to narrow a few things down.

Good deal. Thanks for the follow-up. My next question would have been regarding the SQL permissions...I was thinking you were on LCS 2005 EE. Thanks for the follow-up!

I'm experiencing the same problem using LCS 2005 EE. If I run Active
Directory Users and Computers from one of my Live Communications Servers and
select the
View/Edit Allow and Block List it works fine. But, if I select the View/Edit
Allow and Block List in Active Directory Users and Computers on my
workstation, I received the "failed to read the allow and block list data"
error message.

Why does it work fine from my LCS Server but not my workstation?

I logged onto the workstation using the same acccount that I used to logon to
the LCS server. This account is a member of the RTCDomainServerAdmins group.
The error only occurs when I logon to the workstation.

DNS record for the pool address and point the client to the pool
address
rather than directly to the server. This is important even in a
single
server LCS 2005 EE environment. If you have a single server then you
should
create an A record for the pool that has the same IP as Server.

Ex (A Records)
Server1.domain.local - 10.10.10.105
SQLSrv.domain.local - 10.10.10.101
Pool1.domain.local - 10.10.10.105

Ex with a load balancer (F5 or similar device)
Ex (A Records)
Server1.domain.local - 10.10.10.105
Server1.domain.local - 10.10.10.106
SQLSrv.domain.local - 10.10.10.101
Pool1.domain.local - 10.10.10.110 (Note: This would be the
virtual
IP,
or VIP, assigned to the load balancer, such as an F5 device.)

I'm experiencing the same problem using LCS 2005 EE. If I run Active
Directory Users and Computers from one of my Live Communications
Servers
and
select the
View/Edit Allow and Block List it works fine. But, if I select the
View/Edit
Allow and Block List in Active Directory Users and Computers on my
workstation, I received the "failed to read the allow and block list
data"
error message.

Why does it work fine from my LCS Server but not my workstation?

Good deal. Thanks for the follow-up. My next question would have
been
regarding the SQL permissions...I was thinking you were on LCS 2005
EE.
Thanks for the follow-up!

Jesús -
Are you working with LCS 2005 Standard or Enterprise?
Have you installed Service Pack 1?
Are the clients connecting via the Server IP address, the
Server
name, or the Pool name?
I am assuming that you are using WM5.1 or MOC...is this
correct?

I have an idea why this is happening, which is the DNS record
for
the
Pool, but I need to narrow a few things down.

Can you try logging into the workstation and running the tool, not doing a
Run As? Apologies if I have already asked...is this account a member of any
of the RTC Admin groups?

I am sorry...I had mis-read your question.

Is the account that you are utilizing to administer the LCS server the
same
account on the Server as it is on the workstation? Are you doing a Run
As... ?

My client is pointing to the FQDN on the enterprise pool. I do have the
appropriate A Record in DNS for the enterprise pool.

Your response was buried in a thread that had already closed...so I
didn't
see it until today.

Chances are that your client is pointed to the server IP or server

and
is not pointed to the

Most of the time I see this when LCS 2005 Enterprise Edition is
implemented and the IM client, be it WM or MOC, is configured to
utilize
the
server name or server or pool IP and not the pool name for the LCS
2005
Enterprise Edition pool.

When using LCS 2005 Enterprise Edition it is very important to create
the
DNS record for the pool address and point the client to the pool
address
rather than directly to the server. This is important even in a
single
server LCS 2005 EE environment. If you have a single server then you

SQLSrv.domain.local - 10.10.10.101
Pool1.domain.local - 10.10.10.105

Ex with a load balancer (F5 or similar device)

Server1.domain.local - 10.10.10.105
Server1.domain.local - 10.10.10.106
