We are migrating a NT domain to win2003 domain in our branch office.

==> Our proposed domain has to join an existing 2003 domain(head
office) as a separate tree.
==> We also have exch 5.5 in all locations as a single organization but
in their individual Exchange sites.
==> Our head office which has forest root domain also has exchange 5.5
in this exchange organization.
==> In our branch, we have PDC, 2 BDCs. 1 exch5.5 server is setup in a
separate site and this server is a member server.

Our strategy
------------
==> I'm planning to install NT as a BDC and promote this to PDC.
==> Will upgrade the OS to Win2003 and then run dcpromo and join the
existing forest as separate tree.
==> I'm not planning to migrate exchange 5.5 now but at a LATER date,
probably during christmas holidays.

My queries are:
---------------

Q1 ==> Do I have to configure ADC? Assuming head office has a ADC in
their domain..
Q2 ==> If ADC is required, from which CD, I should install it? win2003
CD or Exchange 2003 CD?
Q3 ==> Can I retain BDCs for a while, even after upgrading the domain?
Q4 ==> During dcpromo, we are going to change our domain name, will it
create problems for clients, after upgrade?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks much,
carlos

Hi,

My answers as below:

1. You need to install ADC.
2. From Exchange 2003 CD
3. Sure, the domain will run at mix mode.
4. We strongly recommend not to change domain name during DCPromo. Because
it may lead to unexpect error. You may change the Windows NT domain name
first then run DCPromo.

Hope it helps.
