So here's my goal: We have an exisitng SBS2000 server running E2K and are
deploying a new W2K member server with E2K Enterprise. I want to move the
database/information store/mailboxes to the new E2K server and eventually
remove only Exchange from the SBS2000 server due to it being out DC. What
is the best way to accomplish this. Thanks in advance!

Fred,
what is the driving force behind going to all this expense
Perhaps we can give you better alternatives

Thanks for the reply Cris,

We are near reaching the 16GB DB limit on the SBS server, its only been 2
years since we deployed this system. We already hit it once and i was able
to knock it down a few GB's by just archiving emails over a quarter (3
month's old). I know about the increased DB size from W2k3 SP2 but we
figured best case scenario is that we would not come close to the 75GB limit
but if we do then we are back at square one. So we already owned a copy of
W2K Server and just needed to purchase E2K Enterprise and a new box and we
will not have to worry about a DB limit. This firm is new and mainly does
contract law, with 10 attorney's so far and still adding and with the amount
of emails, document attachements, we figured this would be the better
solution for us in the long run. Thanks.

I understand where you are coming from, but do you really think that any attorney is going to use up 7.5 GB in a mailbox??? or lets say you grow to 25 attorneys. 4 GB private information store is not enough for each person?? this is when autoarchiving, mandatory deletion deleted files, cleaning up sent items etc. must be enforced.

Second point. Are you sure you can get E2k Enterprise? Microsoft officially ended primary support for Win2k on Jun 30, 2005 Mainstream Support for Exchange 2k in any version ends 12/31/2005. I'm not sure that I'd spend that kind of money for a product that is for all intent and purpose, passed its lifecycle.

There are so many other cool features in SBS 2003, such as Company Web (that I know your lawyers would love for sharing information), Remote Web WorkPlace, etc. improved mobile device support. You are probably talking well under 2k to upgrade to SBS 2003. including CALs. If you can find it...cant believe that Exchange Server and the extra CALs will that little.

Sorry if I've taken you off on a tagent, but I hate seeing people moving away from SBS when its such a great product and great value with this upgrade for Exchange, I don't know how you miss.
