wrong license info |

HELP!
I have a client who has SBS 2000. Two of their users get the following when
opening outlook:
"Unable to open your default e-Mail folders. You do not have permission to
log on."
Everything seems in order but while doing some basic troubleshooting we
noticed that the "About" dialoge shows them as having 2000 licenses so
obviously somehting is wrong. We didn't install the CAL's (but it's easy to
see why they're in the market for a new IT Consultant to fix things) so I'm
not sure exactly how it got this way.
The way it is listed, just in case any one asks is:
Licenses: 2000 Add Licenses
How is this possible and can any one see a reason this would lock a user out
of their exchange folders?

The Outlook issue is most likely not related to the Licensing glitch. Have
you tried to recreate the Users Outlook Profile on the machine in question?
Are the computers part of the SBS Domain? Can you resolve the SBS Server by
FQDN from command prompt at the computers?

PS... they had an ampersand in their registered name in the registry so that
KB helped with that part of the puzzle! Thanks.

We've already tried deleting and recreating the profile in the Mail settings.
When that didn't work we tried it on another computer by setting up her mail
profile there and we get the same. Sadly I didn't troubleshoot this- it was
passed on to me when our other tech finally got too frustrated. So I'm trying
to be armed with a few options before going into battle.
I know that in addition to the above steps he resolved some other network
issues for them that were somewhat unrelated so I'm assuming it wasn't this
particular issue that gave him all the headaches. Any way, I've printed these
documents you link to and if they don't help I'll just post again with the
results! Thanks for the quick response.

I can't exactly log into it to then shut down and log off... my choices are
to use the system default folders or if I say no, to have outlook close out.
Is there a way to try manually releasing the licesnse?

Hi Nancy,
Make sure that users use the 'Shut down and log off' from the File menu when
they want to close Outlook. If they just close it, the license won't be
released.

The users in question cannot get email from any machine they log into. Yet at
those same machines, other accounts are working fine.
I'm apt to believe the issue is in her account not her profile on her
computer as it follows her from machine to machine.
When I checked in Exchange System Manager under user logins, the two users
who cannot connect to their mailbox are not listed. Everyone else with the
exception of one other user (Who doesn't seem to be experiencing any issues
with outlook/exchange as of 1/2 hour ago) is listed there. Since the one
oddball user can ger her email even without a login listed in Exchange I'm
leaning toward the possibility maybe her SID has become corrupt or something
to that effect.
Is there a good way to recreate her account settings without deleting the
original account or losing her existing exchange store which has over
10,000KB of messages stored in it?

Make sure the affected users have SELF listed with Read access rights as
well as FULL mailbox rights
Mailbox Rights for New Users Shows Only Self

Maybe also try to logging onto the affected user's mailbox using OWA.
