Hi All,

Im need of some help regarding exchange server through sbs2000 (with
ISA enabled). I have set up the network cards correctly (Internal –
local ip DNS point to itself, External – static external ip, external
gateway, dns pointing to internal ip). I have ran ICW allowing smtp, I
have secured mail server through ISA, created packet filters to allow
smtp in and out. I have ran a port scan through grc.com and port 25 is
stated as being open.

However, my problem is that I cannot receive any email and any email
sent to the server automatically goes to the 2nd mx record which is
used as a backup. Outbound email is working fine. I have tried telnet
on port 25 through external connection but received connection failed
message. The server does allow pop3 which does receive a connection
through telnet. Also, when I tried doing a port scan from the external
connection port 25 is not listed as open (This contradicts grc.com?!).

Does anyone have any advice on what may be causing this problem, Im
fairly certain this behaviour is all down to port 25 being blocked by
isa but I can't think of anything else to try to open it. The services
have been restarted after each change and server has had several
reboots in the hope that it might fix it but still no luck.

Please help as I am supposed to be installing exchange this weekend.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

Hi,

You shouldn't have use the secure email wizard. Try to undo those changes it
made. In worst case scenario, remove ISA and reinstall it.
