SharePoint & MS-Access |
|
|
Greetings from Belgium,
I am new with SharePoint and I already met a problem that I cannot
solve without your expertise.
In one of my site I made a link to a database and it works perfectly
but, as soon as the application is launched, it offers to download the
application onto the user's PC.
I do not want the application to be downloaded. It MUST stay and be
used from the server ONLY!
What can I do to inhibit the downloading?
Thanks for your help,
Jean-Philippe |

if this is an MS Access Application you created, then the users must have
Access in stalled on their computer for it to work, they can have either the
runtime or the full version.
What database are you linking to, an Access mdb, the Sharepoint content db
or something else?

OK Dean,
On the server, there is an application called PTM.mdb.
All the users have MS Office 2003 installed on their workstation.
The SharePoint actually has a link to the PTM.mdb
(\\ServerName\Folder\PTM.mdb).
The PTM.mdb application runs fine using the SharePoint link but, as
soon as the application is launched, it offers to download the
application (PTM.mdb) onto the user's PC.
As I said it in my original message, I do not want the application to
be downloaded. It MUST stay and be used from the server ONLY!
Thanks for your help!

You need to split the database into a Front End (the forms, queries, code
and reports) that is deployed to the users and a Backend (data tables) that
is stored on the server. There is a wizard in Access to do this for you, but
I am not sure if this will work when the Backend in in a Sharepoint folder
(i've never tried this)

Thanks, Dean!
I'll try that!
Still, I have the feeling that Sharepoint will offer the user to
download the Front End (I don't want that either)
