Vertias gives error while installing |
|
|
Hi all
I'm trying to install Veritas Backup Exec for SBS 2000 on my server. During
installation I have to fill in my product key and this is where it goes
wrong. It says that i don't have a valid key. I made a phonecall to Veritas
(license helpdesk) and they verified my key. They told me I should contact
technical support. Tech support asked me more information about my
configuration which i gladly gave. Then they asked me to confirm I had SBS
2000 installed on my server by searching the registry for a certain value. I
was unable to find this key. However the server I'm using is a SBS2000 (valid
product key attached to case) pre-installed by HP (ML350). I run a SQL server
on this machine and this could be a problem to install the backup software.
On the veritas support site i found a topic that stated that i had to
uninstall SQL server in order to install the Veritas software.
This is just not doable, I tried to stop the SQL services before installing
the backup software but that didn't help.
Is there any one who can tell me how to make sure that I'm dealing with a
SBS 2000 installation and maybe have a solution to bypass this veritas
problem.
many thanks in advance

You can check Add/Remove Programs to see if Small Business Server is
installed, as it will be listed.

Do you have "VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 Small Business Server Standard
Edition"
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/264951.htm
The error: "Invalid Serial Number" occurs when entering a valid Small
Business Server (SBS) serial number during the installation of Backup Exec
for Windows NT.
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/206702.htm
How to determine if Windows 2000 Small Business Server is installed
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/237981.htm
I wonder if the SBS 2000 installtion was only a a "partial" installation
(i.e., the tech tried to manually install it or simply did not finish the
integrated setup).
You may want to reinstall the SBS 2000 administrative components in
"Maintenance Mode". This may create the necessary registry key(s).
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.backoffice.smallbiz2000/browse_thread/thread/ba2e67ab41cacffb/0045cd4208517ff4?lnk=st&q=sbs+2000+%22maintenance+mode%22&rnum=2&hl=en#0045cd4208517ff4
You can run Setup.exe from SBS 2000 CD 1 (which places Setup in Maintenance
mode):
1. Click Set Up Small Business Server.
2. On the Component Selection page, expand Small Business Server.
3. Expand Administration
