Adding an additional 2003 Server to a SBS 2000 domain |

I am in the process of moving from SBS 2000 Server to Regular Server 2003 w/
Exchange 2003.
My main question is - can I join the 2003 server to the SBS 2000 domain with
no problem? Do I have to run something before that happens.
Second - Can I install Exchange 2003 to the 2003 server? If so, how does it
operate with the current sbs 2000 environment.
The ultimate goal is to take the SBS 2000 server down.
Please help. I am working on this starting tomorrow and am nervous!

With that short of time frame - you may wish to look at Jeff Middleton's
migration site...

Otherwise - the process really depends upon what/how much you need to move
across to the new server. User and Computer Accounts, existing shares,
Exchange as a whole including Public Folders, extensive group and ACL
setups, same or different name for Domain, etc.
More detail on what you need to take with you would help.

I need to move all user accounts, and e-mail mailboxes. The existing SBS
server will NOT be in use any more.
As for shares and applications, I will manually copy them out and reinstall
them to the new server.
I just do not know how to add 2003 Server and Exchange to an existing SBS
2000 environment initially. I have been reading about ADPREP and FORESTPREP,
but am unsure if they are needed. Are they needed, or can I simply join the
2003 server to the SBS domain?

It's a long and involved document - but the primary info is there...
How to upgrade Windows 2000 domain controllers to Windows Server 2003

Gives you info on prepping the existing AD for the move up to 2003.
One big issue you will have though is the move from Exchange 2000 to
Exchange 2003 - which while not impossible - will require you to be sure you
follow a process that may not allow recovery - other than a restore.
Again - knowing your time frame - I strongly suggest going to the previously
supplied link.
