Adding machines running windows 2000 server to domain |
|
|
Hi
I have a small network with one server acting as a domain controller. I have
added another machine running windows 2000 server that has isa 2004
installed (but not working). I have added this new machine to the domain
by -> 'configure your server' screen -> network-> network identification->
member of -> domain and then typing my domain name.
Do I have to do anything else?
When I log onto the new machine using an admin account I notice I get an
event ID 54, that says 'windows time service was not able to find a domain
controller', just before I get event id 7001 which says 'microsoft firewall
service depends on the ms ISA server control that failed to start because of
error %%0.
I was wondering whether the isa error was linked to the machine being unable
to find a domain controller for time service?
Many thanks for any help given

The normal way to add a computer to a domain is to right-click My Computer
(on the workstation or server that is joining the domain), select
properties, Check the "domain" box instead of the "workgroup" box, type in
the name of the domain you want to join (either the netbios name or the
fqdn). A box should appear asking you to provide the credentials for an
account with the authority to join a computer to the domain. Upon success,
you'll be welcomed to the domain and required to reboot. After the reboot
you may choose to logon to the domain rather than the local computer by
selecting the advanced options in the logon dialog box. You can log on using
any domain account. Make sure you are pointing to the domain controller for
DNS, or you'll be unsuccessful.

ISA server 2004 protects all network cards on the server.
You will need to find out why it's not starting.
Try un-install ISA and see if your time service error goes away.
Re-install ISA server and add exceptions for traffic on the local network
card.

Sounds like DNS to me. However depening on how many logons are cached
you would be able to logon to the domain. If 1 logon is cached then you
would be able to succesfully logon without the presence of a Domain
Controller. To clear out DNS cache on the problem machine use the
command ipconfig /flushdns . Then run ipconfig /registerdns.
