Problem creating a DFS root |
|
|
Hello everyone
I'm currently having a problem to create a domain DFS root.
Here is my setup :
2 win2K SP 4server computers running as AD controler for an AD called
mycompany.local
1 main file server, running Win 2K SP4, member of mycompany.local Active
Directory, called MainFileServ, sharing a directory called MyCompanyShare.
This computer is going low disk space...
2 new servers, running Windows 2000 Powered (Dell PowerVault 725N) called
FileServ1 and FileServ2, providing something like 1 TB each.
The aim is to convert \\MainFileServ\MyCompanyShare to a domain DFS Root.
Then, a directory "Projects" will be created. This directory will be a DFS
link to \\FileServ1\Projects$ and \\FileServ2\Projects$, with FRS enabled
between this two shares.
When I use DFS MMC to convert \\MainFileServ\MyCompanyShare to a domain DFS
Root, I get an error message "The following error occured while creating DFS
root on server MainFileServer. Access Denied".
I tried to convert it to a standalone DFS Root, everything is working fine.
I tried to create a domain DFS Root called \\MainFileServ\MyCompanyShare2,
mapped to the same directory than \\MainFileServ\MyCompanyShare, I get the
same error.
I tried to create a domain DFS Root directly on \\FileServ1\Projects$, it's
working fine.
It means that I can create a Domain DFS root on any computer except the one
I want. I think it means it's not an AD rights problem on
System\DFS-Configuration.
I can create a stand-alone DFS root on this computer, so it means it's not a
registry ACL problem on
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DFSDriver\LocalVolumes
or on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DFSHost\Volumes on MainFileServ.
I can't understand where this problem comes from.
Could someone help me? Google is quite mute about this error...
Thanks for your help
