Upgrading from SBS2000 to SBS2003 |
|
|
Hello,
We're looking to upgrade our current SBS2000 server to SBS2003, but there
are some concerns.
1. The upgrade documentation says that 2 GB of free space is needed on the
C: drive to perform the upgrade. I've been doing maintenance on the C: drive
to try and free up the required 2 GB. One option I want to do is move the
Windows Default Paging and Spool file to another drive. If we move them,
would that be safe and not interfere with the upgrade to SBS2003?
2. Also in regard to reducing space on C:, there is a folder on the C:
drive at
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Small Business Server SP1. The files within it
are EX2KSP3_server.exe, Readme.htm, SP1Setup.EXE, and UpdateSBS.MSI. I'm
assuming these are all just setup files from when we installed Service Pack 1
for SBS2000. Is it safe to delete this folder and files to help free up
space?
3. The total partition size of the C: drive is 7.9 GB. Will that be enough
for SBS2003 to run smoothly after the upgrade?
Thank you very much in advance |

Dave,
Thank you very much for your help and information. We really appreciate it.

upgrade. You can certainly move the paging file without any problem. Just
remember that you don't want to attempt to reboot the server without a good
pagefile configuration on another partition - in other words, don't delete
the one on C then reboot to create the new one, do it the other way around.
I'd check to see if the spooler files are worth bothering with - my guess is
that they're not.
2. Sounds reasonable to get rid of that stuff too. You could move it until
your upgrade is finished to be on the safe side.
3. Yes, I'm running SBS 2003 on an 8 GB partition quite happily. I've
moved everything you can move in the "how to move..." doc from the MS SBS
web site, including client apps, user shares, exchange, pagefile, etc.
Another possibility is to delete all the temp files, and delete or move
uninstallers for patches, SPs, etc from c:\winnt.
