Hello:

I have configured Microsoft Cluster in Windows 2003 (two nodes and a
shared drive). I have several processes running in a group with its
network name and IP address. I have installed this configuration
several times but in this installation i have found a problem: when the
groups failovers from node2 to node1 everything works find and all the
resources are online in few seconds.
If I do this from node1 to node2 it lasts 3 minutes that it is the time
limit configured in the Cluster Administrator. I can see performance in
node1 as well it is not optimal in some silly tasks like for example
open a text file (it may last 30 seconds,) ....
I have checked the Event Log and nothing strange appears, I have cheked
the performance of the server in the Task Manager and there is a normal
usage of memory and CPU.

Thank you very much form reading this. Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Jose

Did the application log say anything? What application(s) are you running?
Is your hardware exactly alike?

Cheers,

Rod

So, this application creates a resource type in cluster?

Yes. I have installed and configure this applicattion in other projects
and I never have had this problem.

The application consists in four processes. I create a cluster group
that contains:

-An IP Address resource

-A network name

-A general application resource for each process

Maybe I misunderstood the "cluster-aware" expression.

Thank you for your time and sorry for my English.

Yes, the hardware is the same in both nodes. The applicattion to run on
the cluster is a client-server application. It seems as if the server
could not kill the proceses and have to wait these three minutes.

Thanks,

Jose

Is the application cluster-aware?

A 'cluster-aware' application will generally install its' own resource type
in cluster. What you have told me is that you used the generic application
resource in an attempt to make your application work better in a cluster.
That is fine, but there are no guarantees it will work correctly.
