Hello,

I am new to clustering. Is there a step by step procedure that can
explain how to create Active/Active clustered file share? I have the
following setup and I am trying to test failover. But it just doesn't
seem to work. Can anybody shade some light?

1. Two node (N1 and N2) Active/Active cluster say "NC" on Windows 2003
Enterprise edition
2. Created virtual server V1 having following resources
ip address
network name
SCSI Physical disk (R:)
File share (testshare) created through cluster administrator pointing
to a directory on R:\

Here is how I am testing failover

1. N1 and N2 are running clustering service
2. Accessed \\NC\testshare. It worked
3. Stopped clustering service on node N1.
4. Accessed \\NC\testshare. It worked
5. Started clustering service on node N1
6. Stopped clustering service on node N2
7. After this, testshare failed to get to "Online" state.

Event viewer showed following messages.

Cluster file share resource "testshare" failed to start with error
1392.
The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please
run the chkdsk utility on the volume R:.
Cluster File Share 'testshare' cannot be brought online because the
share could not be created.
Cluster resource 'testshare' in Resource Group 'Group 1' failed.

To do active/active you will need two physical drives, one for to hold each
share. With only an "R", you will remain Active/Passive.

What kind of equipment are you running on? You successfully failed over from
N1 to N2, but you did not from N2 to N1 correct?

Cheers,

Rod

Prasad,

Rodney is right; you will need at least one disk per node. I would also
suspect this is the reason for the inability to fail resources from one node
to the other and back again.

Prasad,

To do what you want of Active/Active, you would need 2 separate group and in
each group as a minimum you would have an IP Address, Network Name and
Physical Disk resources including a File Share resource that would solely
depend on the Physical Disk and Network Names resources within that group.
