some clients is not dynamically register with dns |
|
|
We did inplace upgrade in our domain , and placed dns to one of the new dc.
After one day we found that some clients registered ip with dns but some of
them not.
The clients win 2000 servers machines ; the settings on dns is secure update.
Thanks |

The documet sais how to disable the dinamic registration on DNS.
All my clients are win 2000 or 2003 servers and the dynamic registration is
enabled by default ,hovewer, some machines are able to register with dns some
not.
I even run registerdns on the each machine but still no luck.
I can create the manual entry in the DNS but I want to solve this issue with
dynamic update.
Thanks |

Your problem is a blank Primary DNS Suffix. See below.
Primary DNS Suffix . . . . . . . :
Your blank Primary DNS Suffix will confuse the client because the client
will not know where to go to update it's DNS record. This name must exactly
match the name of the DNS zone of the Active Directory domain that the
client belongs to or else the client's name will not update in the Dynamic
DNS database (provided dynamic updates are in fact enabled).
