Norton Corporate 10.* tweaking , Might be a more appropiate |

Might be a more appropiate newsroup to post to, please forgive me if
anyone can suggest a better one please do.
Anyhow I have Norton Corporate 10.
When looking at the console It indicates
at each of the work stations that the client firewall is not on.
I have checked the documentation and cannot find a way to turn them
on.
Also I have been trying to connect to work stations thru the console
for updating definations etc, but an error comes up saying cant
connect to computer network path not found.
But they are logged into the domain and are connected.
Thank you.

I don't know anything about Norton Corporate 10 and perhaps someone else
here will but I would try to check for connectivity to the other computers
by starting with pinging their IP address and name to see what happens. You
could also try to access the other domain computers by using Computer
Management - action/connect to another computer by name or IP address to see
if that works. If that works then the firewall on the client computer is
either disabled or has the exception for remote management or file and print
sharing enabled. You can also use the netsh command on the client computer
or look at the network connection/properties/advanced - settings for
firewall to see if the Windows Firewall is enabled or not and it will only
be available on Windows XP/2003 computers. On XP Pro computers you can use
Group Policy to enable the firewall if you do not want to do it on each
individual computer. I don't know if there is a way to do it via Norton
Corporate 10 as there might be. DNS misconfiguration in the domain can cause
problems with accessing domain computers. Review the link below on how DNS
must be configured for an Active Directory domain and look at using the
support tool netdiag to check for configuration problems on domain computers
including domain controllers. Also use Event Viewer to check the logs on
your server to see if any pertinent problems via Event ID's are shown which
may help you. --- Steve

Thanks Steve the funny thing is that the workstations ARE connected to
the domain, there "My Documents" are mapped to seperate user folders
on the server. The firewalls on each station are not turned on. I can
actually view properties etc of each work station in Server Manager
Console.
Netdiag sounds like a good direction to go in.
Thanks
Matt
