I want to setup a cluster using two IIS servers. My question is does the
storage have to be connected to the nodes (fiber channel, etc )? or can I
connect to it through cat 5 cables (network)?
My storage device is a network storage (netapp).
Thanx

Hi,
you should setup your cluster based on MS Network Load Balancing
Technologie. This is the prefered way for IIS. In the following 2 Links
you will find detailed instructions:

Network Load Balancing Best practices
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/library/ServerHelp/fa6ef832-1aa7-472f-b492-0dd3c60bd46d.mspx

Network Load Balancing: Frequently Asked Questions for Windows 2000 and
Windows Server 2003
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/technologies/clustering/nlbfaq.mspx

Based on this technology you can connect your storage device as you
want.

As already posted NLB is the best way to go, though both work nicely.

To answer your questions below, storage does have to be connected, via iSCSI
(so yes, you can connect via Cat 5), SCSI, or fibber channel.

Netapp storage works nicely, I would configure DFS on it and use NLB. Look
into NLB for this situation, the cost is much less and so are the headaches.

Cheers,

Rod
