Is there a document out there showing the upgrade path from ADMTv2 to
ADMTv3. We are currently in the middle of a large migration and I don't want
to lose the current database from ADMTv2.

Thanks

Did you find ADMT V3 on MS web site? We are about to start our migration
process. I am hoping that ADMTv3 will have resolution for security
translation wizard. I could not find ADMT v.3.0 on MS web site. Thanks.

Here is the link on Microsoft's site.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=6F86937B-533A-466D-A8E8-AFF85AD3D212&displaylang=en

I installed it and migrated my ADMT2 database into the SQL Database. I ran
ADMT3 through a few computer migrations and didn't have the problems with
the profiles not coping correctly.

Hi Doug,

Currently, there is no document now we can freely download. You can type
some key words in ADMT 3.0 HELP to get assistance for the upgrade. We will
publish some ADMT 3.0 relevant documents soon.

I found the documentation, use winzip or winrar and extract the
adsmsetup.exe to a folder. There is a file called admt.cab, extract that
file and ADMTReadMe.doc that explains the migration.

Thanks for the info. I downloaded and used ADMT V3. I encountered few issues
which I am listing below. May be you can guide me to resolve my issues.

Question s regarding ADMT V3.

When migrating user accounts from source to target domain using “user
migration wizard” , I initially chose to keep the migrated accounts disabled
in target domain, and kept it enabled in source domain.

I also tried to “migrate password” , but kept getting the error message
“could not connect to PES server”, even though I can ping the PES server in
source domain from Target domain DC where I am running ADMT and vice versa.
I chose to select “create complex password”.

I migrated the local and global groups, migrated computer, user profile etc.
using the group migration wizard, computer migration wizard.

I reran user migration once again on the same users using the option
previously migrated object, this time asking to enable accounts to target
domain and disable after 30 days in source domain.

Here are my problems:

When I look at the AD user and computer in target domain, I see accounts are
still disabled. I manually enable the accounts. When I try to log on to the
target domain with the password generated by ADMT , I get the error message
“access denied”. I have to reset password manually. ( this is Ok in test
domain but for production domain it is a big inconvenience).

After migration, I checked the local profile (we do not use roaming
profile). I see profiles are copied but drive mapping are not there. Also
outlook profile did not copied. I compared the username.newdomain folder
with the username.olddomain folder. Seems OK.

Now here is my test domain situation:

I have two way trusts between domains in two forests. My file server and
exchange servers are still in the source domain and preferably will be in
this state for a while until I am able to migrate all users.. Given the
situation, my question is do I need to migrate the file server and exchange
server to the target domain immediately for everything to work ?

Thanks for any feed back you can provide me.

when I migrate computer from source to target, is it suppose to generate dns
entry on the target domain automatically and assign a dhcp address of target
domain range even if I was using a static address for the client machine in
the source domain? I am on a test network just using few client machines, so
I did not use DHCP on source domain, but target is DHCP enabled.

on the migrated PC property on general tab DNS name entry should display
new dns name entry or old dns name entry? For excample: source domain name :
sbmi.local , target domain name : sbm.local. Pc name in the source domain is:
sbmitestpc. Now that I migrated the PC to SBM domain, and look at the PCname
in ADuser/computer, what dns name entry in general tab should be.
