Windows 2000 Servers can only host a single root. Windows Server 2003
Standard servers can only host a single root unless you install a new hotfix
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;903651), which
allows you to host multiple domain-based roots.

DFS does have the concept of target priority, but this is a relatively new
features. It's in SP1 as APIs, but you need to use the Windows Server 2003
R2 tools to configure priority. Without R2/SP1, DFS has sort targets by
cost.

Crap. IOMega puts an "Appliance Edition" in their NASes.. and it's
equal to standard.

Hi Wulff, Windows Server 2003 R2 is a future release of Windows Server 2003,
which includes many enhancements such as the DFS Replication Service (Which
would allow what you are referring to)

See This Overview of DFSR in R2 --
http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServer/en/Library/d3afe6ee-3083-4950-a093-8ab748651b761033.mspx

It refers to Beta 2 of the product, but the Release Candidate 0 CPP public
build is available for download from:
http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsServer2003/R2/default.mspx

As I mentioned in another post, there is a dedicated CPP R2 newsgroup so if
you want to download and try out the product, we're there in the NG to
answer questions about it.
