Windows 2003 AnonymousUser |
|
|
Is it possible to recreate the Anonymous_User group in Win2k3 that
would have existed had I upgraded from Windows 2000?
I just want to share a printer over classic Windows networking to
Windows 2000 guests without having them encounter the "Login:" box &
have to enter "Guest" and no password each time. Of course, the Guest
account is on, and I have modified the machine's Local Security Policy
to allow anonymous users to see the network shares on the machine.
Basically, I want all anonymous users connecting from my LAN to map to
the Guest account automatically.
IIS anonymous access still works OK.

I added the Guest user to the local machine "Users" group. It seems
that "Everyone" is not a valid group like it was in Win2k?? The
"Everyone" entry still shows up when setting Security ACL list settings
in Windows Explorer.
Anyway, this did not solve the problem, Windows 2000 still insists on
showing the login box for the printer that is shared for everyone. I
also tried setting the "Guest" login password to a non-empty value
which also did not help.
I currently have Everyone as being able to submit jobs only to the
printer; only admins can view & delete jobs. Would this be interfering
with anonymous access to the printer?

It should be possible if you really want to do it with the guest account
enabled. The share would need everyone permissions and the guest account
might need to have a password if I remember correctly though the users will
not be asked for the password. You may also need to tweak your security
settings for anonymous access including the option to include anonymous in
the everyone group. The user right for access this computer from the
network for that server would also need to include the everyone group. ---
