DNS installation fails on W2003 Web Edition |
|
|
Hi,
When I try to install DNS on Windows 2003 Web Edition ("Add/Remove
Windows Components", "Networking Services", "Domain Name System(DNS)"),
I get installation errors such as:
"Setup cannot copy the file 'dnsmgmt.ms_'" (sometimes I get other
filenames such as "dnsperf.dl_", "dnsperf.h_", etc).
....with a dialog box allowing me to browse for the file. However, the
source file DOES exist! I'm assuming that because there's an EXISTING
DESTINATION file in windows\system32 called "dnsmgmt.msc" that I assume
this is the real problem?
The troubling thing is, that even if I rename the destination file
(e.g. "dnsmgmt.oldmsc") and click OK in the dialog, it seems to install
that file and then complain about it again immediately!
I don't know why these files already exist in windows\system32 (maybe
as part of some other service?) or why it's not clever enough to cope
with them.
Any ideas how I can get the DNS service onto Windows 2003 Web Edition?!
Thanks,
John. |

I suspect this is your CD media's problem, or there is problem reading using
your CD rom drive.
