DNS Help Urgent!! |
|
|
Hi
Goal
To create a two way trust between the two organisation.
Description
Two offices, A and B, separated geograhically. Each location running
Windows 2003 server and has a AD integrated zone. Tried creating a
secondary zone for organisation A in organisation B and vice versa. I
entered the Ip address of either server in the Zone transfer tab.
I have been able to retrieve the DNS records/information from office A into
office B, however the opposite is unsuccesful, I get the error, the zone
cannot be loaded. When I try the transfer from master option I receive the
following error " the Zone is locked for transfer." What am I doing wrong
that the reverse creation of the secondary zone is not working.
Please help and advice.
Thanks

Verify that you have allowed zone transfers to all IP addresses on the
Secondary.
For Trust you will also need NetBIOS resolution, so I'd set up WINS on each
network then set them as replicating partners.

When I check the Event Viewer DNS entries on the server in remote office
were the secondary was created sucessfully with the native AD zone, "I see
informations stating the zone version 213 was transferred successfuly to
server 192.168.x.x, however when I check the other server the information is
still not loading and that server is logging the following error
Error Id 6534
"Failed transfer of zone %1 from DNS server at %2. The DNS server at %2
aborted or failed to complete transfer of the zone. Check the DNS server at
%2 and insure it is properly functioning and authoritative for zone %1. "
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Try this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/support/ee/result.aspx?EvtSrc=DNS&EvtID=6534&ProdName=Windows+Operating+System&LCID=1033&ProdVer=5.0
Also, is there any chance the primary is seeing a different IP address other
than the one you are allowing zone transfers too?
If the Secondary DNS server is multi-homed it may be connecting to the
primary with the "wrong" address. It's not really wrong you just don't have
control over which address the secondary will use to connect to the primary.
