Unresponsive Cluster Nodes |
|
|
We have 2, 2-node clusters. They are file servers. We've recently ran into
an issue with the servers where the active node becomes partially
unresponsive and resources do not fail over to the inactive node. Partially
unresponsive means that we can't login to the server locally (background and
cursor (hourglass) are displayed but no ctrl+alt+del window), we can't
access file shares, we can't do any remote administration (Cluster Admin,
Computer Management) but we can ping the active node (by cluster name & ip
address and by it's own hostname and IP address). Because we can't login
or manage the active node remotely, we have to hard-power down the active
node to get the resources to fail over to the inactive node. There is no
information about what happens in any of the event logs, only entries
related to hard restarting the server.
Any ideas?

It sounds like you had what Microsoft calls a "soft hang". We had a similiar
issue a couple years back, it turned out to be a Veritas Netbackup issue
relating to Open File Manager - OTMAN.
