when I set up a DNS Alias I get Duplicate name error when you connect to a
server

I have moved five file server to a single Machine runing 2k3 Advance

I have set up alias usingthe orginal machine machine name and receive a
duplicate name error when I try to connect via the alais = \\Alias\sharename
but work sfine if I user \\machine name\sharename ot \\ipaddress\sharename

as the machine will part of a cluster (not MS) veritas using the reg hack
may not be the best way forward

and why is this the case as I'm sure in the good old days of nt you could do
this

Cananyonehelp :-<

Oh just a note yes DFS is the answer and it will be the final solouton but
this is for user not yet mirgrated and software not converted on to the new
2k3 domain this could take years to find all the old traces of UNC to the old
file servers

Hi,

Since our migration newsgroup mainly focus on the process of migration
between 2 domains. Regarding your issue I think:

Microsoft.public.windows.server.networking or
Microsoft.public.windows.server.general

should be a more appropriate place. Thanks for your understanding.
