Hi,
I have a 2 node Active/Passive Win 2K3 with Exchange 2K3 cluster.
Everything is working fine with respect to the Exchange pieces; and from the
console of either cluster node I can connect to it with no issue. The
problem I have is that I cannot connect to it from any of my workstations (XP
SP2) via Cluster Administrator. I know I've done it before and the only
recent change has been on the network side where I had to change the subnet
mask of all my boxes. The error I get is this:

An error occurred attempting to open cluster node 'cluster name'
The RPC server is unavailable.
Error ID: 1722 (000006ba).

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dan

Check DNS or WINS and make sure they have the correct IP.

Cheers,

Rod

Look at the Firewall...... for Remote you need the Port 135 TCP and the
program Windows\System32\dllhost.exe.

I saw this problem during the cluster installation with w2k3 EE SP1. I
would look at the configuration of the firewall.....

This sounds like a netbios resolution problem.

Try another connection method that uses RPC to check the functionality, like
the Computer Management Snap-in.

I don't see any errors in any other management applications (or otherwise).
There are no WINS servers in this directory and there never have been. I can
use Computer Management of the nodes of the cluster as well as the virtual
server (connects me to the active node). I can RDC into both nodes and
everything looks to be running. Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Dan

Yes, for a client communication you need dynamic ports over 1024.
Randomly allocated high TCP ports between 1024 - 65534
Perhabs your firewall isnīt configured yet in this range.

Okay Exchange 200x still uses Netbios for a number of tasks, so WINS might
be an idea? Second in TS what are you trying to connect to? One of the
nodes, the cluster virtual computer or the Exchange virtual computer? The
latter in my experience doesn't work.

If you aren't using WINS then all of your NetBIOS name resolution is
probably being done using broadcasts. Depending on how the network is
segmented, this could be a problem.
