Exch 2003 Migration - InetOrgPersonfix |
|
|
I recently installed a new Exch 2003 server in 2000 AD domain, with an
existing Exch 2000 server (native mode). I ran forestprep and
domainprep for Exchange 2003 and Server 2003. There were no errors. I
just read the KB article (314649) about the InetOrgPerson problem.
Obviously, I did not run the InetOrgPersonfix script before
forestprep/domainprep.
My Exch 2000 server is still in the AD, and I have not moved the
mailboxes yet. I did create a test mailbox in 2000, and moved it to
2003. There were no errors or problems.
The question is, what do I do now?
Is the InetOrgPerson problem going to prevent me from upgrading my DC's
from 2000 to 2003? The article seems to indicate that I should have
already had a problem during Server 2003 forestprep.
TIA,

Hi Chris,
When upgrading Windows 2000 DC to Windows 2003 in a forest which already
contains Exchange 2000, it is recommended you follow the methods documented
in the following articles to correct the mangled attributes according to
your scenario.
Windows Server 2003 adprep /forestprep Command Causes Mangled Attributes in
Windows 2000 Forests That Contain Exchange 2000 Servers
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=314649
325379.KB.EN-US How to Upgrade Windows 2000 Domain Controllers to Windows
Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=325379
Also, based on my experience, the negative impacts of the mangled
attributes may not explicitly appear in all cases. That is, you may not
experience any symptom on the Exchange server in the AD which contains
mangled attributes. However, in Exchange support view point, it is always
recommended you correct the mangled attributes although you do not find any
problem in order to make sure your Exchange server is fully healthy and
does not have any potential issue.
In the meantime, I would like to let you know that this is specifically
related to Exchange and suggest you please submit your question to Exchange
newsgroups as where is more qualified to help you with Exchange issues if
you need further assistance.
